Using Microsoft 365 to create secure external portals

The use of Microsoft 365 (office, Teams, SharePoint) has changed and driven collaborative ways of working in many organisations, with the ability to share documents and information not matter the location more easily.

However many organisations now want the ability to share documents, forms, contracts externally with their clients or third parties in a safe and secure way. The framework application provides the ability for users to create an external portal site by adding the details to a list or integration with a line of business system. A quick link is provided that allows the user to easily upload documents to the portal and a set of flags that alerts users to whether the document is uploaded or has been updated by the client.

At all times there is a copy of the information both in the external client site and also internally within SharePoint, allowing internal users to access and amend document without the external client see changes until such time as it is uploaded to the portal.
